HOW DOES THE MEMBRANE WORK IN SHOES?

Surely, you all know that, your child steps into a puddle, mud here or runs on a dewy lawn there and immediately has their shoes soaked through. Kids simply sometimes have similar crazy ideas. Especially the beginning of spring is perfect for this, because it is often accompanied by cold and damp weather.

Membrane shoes will help you prevent similar problems. Are you interested in what the membrane is and what it is used for? So, that's what you'll find out in this article.

The inner part of the shoe consists of several parts which are joined together by sewing. It is the upper, the lining and in the case of waterproof shoes it is also the membrane. The membrane is a special functional layer between the upper material and the lining of the shoe.

The main function of the membrane is the impermeability of external moisture to the shoes. However, the membrane not only does not let a drop of water in, but also draws internal moisture (sweat) out of the shoes - see picture below.

Wondering how this is possible? The membrane material contains more than one billion microscopic pores per 1 square cm. An ordinary drop of water is about 20,000 times larger than these pores, so it will not pass through the membrane. In contrast, the water vapor molecules which form inside the shoes are about 700 times smaller than the mentioned membrane pores, thanks to which the internal moisture is drained away from the shoes.

In the FARE collection you will find a wide range of waterproof footwear - all year long and in winter offer. How to know if the shoes from our e-shop www.fare.cz are equipped with this membrane? The product name states "waterproof" or "trekking" and this information is also mentioned in the product description.
