First shoes for first steps – FARE FIRST

A child’s first steps are one of the major milestones in their development. And with them comes an important question: when is the right time for a first pair of shoes, and what should those shoes be like?

At FARE, we have been designing and making children’s footwear for more than three decades. Our experience with children’s shoe construction, materials, and different types of children’s feet was also behind the development of FARE FIRST footwear, designed for the stage of a child’s first steps.

When taking their first steps, children are still learning how to balance, shift their weight and feel the surface beneath their feet. Their shoes should therefore avoid restricting the foot unnecessarily.

For first shoes, sufficient flexibility, low weight and enough room for natural toe movement are especially important. The shoe should stay securely on the foot while avoiding pressure or forcing the foot into an unnatural position.

That is why, when developing FARE FIRST, we focused not only on appearance, but above all on the construction of the shoe.

FARE FIRST shoes are designed to meet the needs of young children who are beginning to move independently.

The shape provides plenty of room in the front of the shoe, allowing the toes to rest in a natural position. The construction is lightweight and flexible, so the shoe can move naturally with the foot and does not unnecessarily restrict movement while walking.

A proper fit is also essential. The shoe should sit securely around the heel, while the chosen fastening system helps adjust the shoe to the individual shape of the foot.

A child’s foot is constantly developing and changing. That is why, when choosing first shoes, it is important to consider not only the length of the foot, but also its width, instep height and overall shape.

Regular measuring is just as important. Children’s feet can grow very quickly, and shoes that fitted well a few months ago may no longer provide enough space.

First shoes should therefore not be chosen solely according to the size number on the box. The actual measurements and shape of the child’s foot should always be the deciding factors.

FARE FIRST shoes were created as the first step between moving freely barefoot and entering the world of footwear.

Their purpose is not to “shape” the foot, but to protect it when moving outdoors while still providing enough space for natural development and movement.

Because those very first steps are the beginning of a long journey.
